One Digital Summer Update

We are now at the end of quarter 4 (and our first year of the One Digital programme – hurrah!) It’s been a busy and exciting few months and we have some great achievements to share with you, keep reading for a snapshot of what we’ve been up to.
Programme progress:
This quarter we have continued to train Digital Champions and reach more people with digital skills support. Between March and May 2018 we achieved:
Success stories
Peter Greenfield has been volunteering on the Digital Brighton & Hove project since October 2016. With over 40 years’ experience working in IT in technical and management roles, Peter was keen to start volunteering as he reached retirement. As a Volunteer Digital Champion, he assists older people using smart phones and tablets, while also providing occasional help with Windows or Apple Laptops or PCs. Peter currently visits senior housing schemes approximately once a week to run ‘Digital Gadget Drop-ins’. During these drop-ins, residents can bring their own device and ask for help using them.
Coffee Pot Computing are a group of volunteers who support Eastbourne residents age 50+ to get to grips with modern technology and keep in touch with family and friends. With two informal morning sessions a week, Coffee Pot Computing supports a range of people to develop their digital skills. They are particularly experienced at working with complete beginners and greatly value the excellent resources available via their membership of the Digital Champions Network.
Digital Skills Partnership & Essential Digital Skills
One Digital is pleased to have been invited to join the National Coherence delivery group of the Digital Skills Partnership. The Digital Skills Partnership brings together organisations from the public, private and charity sectors to boost the skills needed for a digitally inclusive economy and society.
One Digital has also been invited to be part of a cross-sector group looking at the future of the Essential Digital Skills Framework and Digital Exclusion Heatmap, as well as a consultation workshop on the Department for Education’s proposed Basic Digital Skills Entitlement.
We are delighted to be able to contribute our partnership’s expertise and experience to these groups and help ensure that more people can benefit from better digital skills.
Community of Practice
The Community of Practice (CoP) continues to share learning and good practice from the One Digital programme via the Toolkit and internal learning sessions. On the 5th June the CoP hosted an active learning set with One Digital partners which focused on measuring the impact of digital inclusion projects and Digital Champion work. Plans are currently underway for an external event in November to look at measuring impact within digital inclusion activities, and to share learning from both One Digital partners and other organisations. More details on the event will be posted on our website shortly, so do keep an eye out if you are interested in taking part.

From becoming a programme partner to setting up your own Digital Champion project, or becoming a member of the Digital Champions Network.
